what kind of anchors do i need to fix a tv bracket to a gyproc wall?

Posted on Saturday, July 24, 2010 in Plasma TV Brackets Discounts

I plan to fix a plasma to the wall above the fire place but in order to keep it centered i will miss the studs and therefor need to find something that will anchor the tv to the plaster board itself .Any suggestions folks ?

Too heavy. You need to anchor a panel or boards to the studs first to transfer their strength horizontally to the location you need to use, then anchor your mount to that. If the wall board holds it at all, it will eventually fail and fall

I think the best way to do it would be to attach a cleat horizontally to the studs and hang your brackets from the cleat. I would not risk hanging a plasma TV from anchors in gyproc. It won’t be the most asthetic looking set up but, the cleat will be behind the TV so it will not be visible.

    1/4 toggle bolts

    Cut the sheetrock out.

step 1. Line the tv up where you want it, measure and mark where the screws should go. Then cut the sheetrock from stud to stud.
    2. Remove the section in question, and frame out a "box" in studs. While you are at it, you can have an Electrician relocate the power and CATV so that it will be concealed behind the tv.
    3. Then replace the sheetrock, and cover all your tracks with hot mud. Sand and paint. Believe me, all the time and materials invested won’t add up to half the cost to replace your plasma screen when those toggle bolts pull the sheetrock out.
