What is the ideal height for wall-mounting a 50" plasma TV?

Posted on Monday, July 19, 2010 in Plasma TV Brackets Discounts

Assuming that viewers are seated on a typical sofa, what height on the wall is going to be the most natural and comfortable for viewing the TV. Is there an industry standard? Is the height measured from center of TV screen to floor or bottom of screen to floor? My wall mounting kit does have the capability to tilt slightly (10 to 15 degrees up or down).

LOL! This is not rocket science. From the seated position where most will watch, just make sure the bottom of the screen (minimum) to the middle of the screen (maximum) is at eye level! This is for optimal viewing, not a standard set by decorators.

height depends on your room/seating area from the wall. Let me know the distance and i’ll let you know the height. Coz the angle of viewing has to correspond with the height.

It depends on where you are watching it from.

On a sofa 5 feet away is much different from being on a sofa 25 feet away.

The idea is to mount it eye level to avoid neck strain of looking up. Whether or not it will tilt is not as important as whether your entire audience will be straining their necks trying to watch the TV.

The best advice I could give is nose-to-center-of-screen. If you have recliners in your chairs and couches (and use them often), only then would I truly suggest mounting it higher for that effect.

Also, remember, if you’re going to wallmount a 50" plasma, have a plan for hiding the wires. Most people ditch the idea of mounting their plasma when they realize that they didn’t run an electrical outlet and co-ax in the wall near the TV, and end up having 4-9 wires running up and down the wall. (which kind of takes away the cool factor).

Best of luck to you! :)

I’ve read (can’t remember source) that the center of the screen should be slightly higher than your eye level.

So grab a buddy and have him/her measure the distance from the floor to your eyes while you’re sitting on the primary chair/sofa/beanbag. Add an inch or two and that’s where the center of the screen should be set.

Also, if you want to mount it higher than that, you may want a tilting mount.
